Job Description

Overview of responsibilities :

The Research Associate will be co-supervised by Srividya Iyer, Ph.D., and Christopher Mushquash, Ph.D., and will work closely with their teams and diverse partners and collaborators across Canada to:
• Significantly contribute to the research program and provide high-quality research support, leadership and guidance to the research team ad network partners and collaborators.
• Actively contribute to conceptualization, implementation, data collection and analysis, knowledge translation and stakeholder engagement.
• Develop research protocols, project design and execution.
• Contribute to the identification of relevant grant opportunities and support the conceptualization, preparation, and writing of grant applications.
• Lead and prepare research ethics board applications, reports, and scientific writing (peer reviewed academic journal articles, oral and poster presentations, reports etc.).
• Plan, participate in and support other staff, students, and in scientific outreach activities (webinars, seminars, conferences, etc.).
• Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of relevant onboarding and training for staff, students, and trainees.
• Plan and participate actively in the mentorship of staff, and mentorship and supervision of students and trainees.
• Develop and maintain trusting relationships with existing and new partners around youth mental health and integrated services for Indigenous young people, including with Indigenous youth, family and carers, Elders and Knowledge Holders, national Indigenous-led organizations.
• Promote a team culture among all network stakeholders, partners and participants and contribute to innovative knowledge dissemination activities.

Qualifications :

Required qualifications
• Ph. D. or equivalent qualification in a related field (Public Health/Psychology/Physical & Occupational Therapy/Epidemiology/Sociology/Psychiatry/Nursing/Education, Social sciences, etc.)
• Minimum 2 years of research experience. Research experience in Indigenous mental health and wellness is an asset.
• Direct experience working with and for Indigenous Peoples is required. Preference will be given to qualified candidates who identify as First Nations, Inuit, or Métis.
• Experience building trusting relationships with Indigenous communities, individuals, and organizations is required.
• Experience with community-based participatory action research is an asset.

Special skills and abilities :

Required skills
• Demonstrated experience in all stages of research, including research project management, quantitative and/or qualitative methods, including advanced analyses and related software applications (e.g., SPSS, R, STATA, SAS, NVIVO, ATLAS.ti, EndNote or other bibliographic database management software, etc.) is required.
• Excellent spoken and written English skills. Ability to communicate in a second language (e.g., Indigenous language, French, etc.) is an asset.
• Strong scientific writing skills are required with a record of scholarly publications and conference presentations, and public outreach/knowledge translation in the topic area.
• Knowledge of and experience with Indigenous data governance frameworks is an asset
• Knowledge of and experience with a distinction-based approach
